A typical crime thriller with a lot of twists and turn which makes it very difficult to summarize the plot in a few sentences. The interesting part and the central theme of it is the well researched information about the origin and expansion of Christianity to its present form, the conflict between Rome which took over Christianity and transformed it to suit its own political interests and different secret groups such as Knights Templar, Free Masons, Opus Dey who tries to bring out the true story of Christ and his relationship with Maria of Magdalene who is said to be his wife all the details of which are kept in hidden documents. The secret is carried from generation to generation by Opus Dey to be revealed in most suitable time called the end days. The Roman Church tries to find out the documents or and destroy them or their custodians so that the truth is never revealed which they fear will shatter the myths they built up in the name of faith of Christianity and thus their own very existence. The story start with the murder of last of 4 grand masters who hold the secret to access the location of the document. The novel develops around the investigation into the secret and heroic endeavour to get hold of the documents by his grand daughter Sophie and an American scholar Robert Langdon.
